Ended up using Dorobo, based on friends who grew up with the owners in Tanzania. Now I’m researching places to stay in Zanzibar for the last 4-5 days of our trip. Again, we’re a family of 4 – 2 adults and 2 kids, ages 12 & (almost) 15. Not looking for anything fancy, just comfortable and not overly touristy. Thanks!!

Julia

P.S. We’re from Seattle, too!

We would HIGHLY recommend Kibo Guides (www.kiboguides.com). Simply AMAZING! Read our post about it here! Ask for Bonifice as your guide; he was simply the best!! In terms of beach time, we spent most of our time in Zanzibar on the Southeast Coast… more off the beaten path, quieter, beautiful beaches, more locals… Paje is a nice balance of fun tourist town but very laid back. For better swimming and more tourists, the main areas are in the north part of the island… but we didn’t go there! Have fun!

We are planning a trip to Kisumu, Kenya to visit our “daughter” who lived with our family for 6 months. We want to do a 5-day safari in Tanzania after. Is there a safari company you recommend? We also want to get in a little beach time at the end and would love your recommendations, too. We’re a family of 4 – 2 adults and 2 kids, ages 12 & 14.

It will be such an incredible experience for you and your family. My family and I took 6 weeks to explore (mostly) Bali (as well as Thailand, Singapore and Dubai) and it was something my kids will never forget. I can’t imagine what in imprint a year in the young lives of your kids will leave! I blogged on my trip as well (http://talltraveldude.com), but your site is much more comprehensive (as is befitting such a trip). I look forward to tracking your family throughout your yearlong adventure. Safe travels and have fun!
