Barcelona Graffiti

Graffiti is serious ART in this town and it is everywhere!!  We thought the graffiti in Athens was cool, but in Barri Gotic, it is like nothing we have ever seen!!

As each shop closes for the day, the owner pulls down a metal security screen to discourage thieves from breaking into their establishment.  But rather than simply leaving the metal canvas for random tagging, many of the retail establishments have taken it upon themselves to hire graffiti artists to create a work of art.  Every 2-10 meters there is a unique painting, many depicting some of the items sold in the shop when it is open.

I have been having the most fun strolling around when stores AREN’T open so I can look at all the graffiti art!  ….and of course, taking pictures :)  Here are just a few from our neighborhood!  Which one is your favorite?

What a city. Who needs a museum when all this is in your backyard.

They’re all so cool. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the girl in the red dress – she looks like one of my sisters.

My favorite is the Gabera daisies, perhaps because I have a picture of it with Tuck in front. It’s cool to see so many of them together.

Love the one with the sardine brains. What does that say about me…?
