The Balletic Giraffes

I couldn’t leave Africa without writing about the giraffes! It has always been pretty cool to see a giraffe in the zoo, but there is nothing like looking out onto the open landscape and watching dozens of them gracefully float along the horizon…I was hooked! If I had seen nothing but giraffes on the safari, I would have been a happy person!

There is a lot of attention given to “the big 5” but I think the giraffe is #1 :)

Mom, Dad, Yve and I waited for 20 minutes to see this giraffe drink water, but he was not going to try it while we were there.  Our guide said it was because the giraffe is more vulnerable to predators when he is drinking with his head is down and his legs bowed out a bit.  He just stood there for 20 minutes watching us until we gave up and left….hopefully he was finally able to relax and take a drink :)
